Join the Heart For Africa Blanket Blitz!

On July 23rd, 2010 Heart for Africa will host an event called “Celebrate Litsemba” at the National Stadium in Swaziland. Our goal is to gather over 15,000 orphans and vulnerable children for a day of celebration and HOPE. Our goal is to provide each child with a blanket to help keep them warm during the cold nights of the dry season. Our local goal for Southeast Missouri is to collect over 2,000 blankets for this event.

Please keep in mind the following when collecting gently used or new blankets:
  • The blankets will most likely be washed or scrubbed by hand, usually in a local river or small bucket, so keep this in mind when choosing a fabric color (dark colors work best)
  • Fleece is a great fabric option to combat the cold during the dry season.
  • Size isn’t important since the children sleep on the mud floor, however, the blankets should be large enough for the children to wrap up.
  • Blankets should be clean, if donated blankets smell, please wash before shipping.
The deadline for us to ship is February 27th, 2010.  However, we would love to have most of the blankets collected by the end of the year.

Please email the number of blankets you plan to collect or make to daphne.edmonds@gmail.com or call 573-275-4006 for more information.

“Litsemba” means HOPE !
